Julie Tishkoff has lived in the Bay area her entire life. While the bay area is pristine, she is aware of all the issues challenging our environment. As someone who’s not afraid of voicing her concerns no matter the context, here are some of the environmental issues she finds the most pressing and what she feels are the best solutions to help slow down or stop these issues.
Carbon Emissions
One of the biggest issues our environment faces is excessive carbon emissions, says Julie. Thankfully, a number of corporations have even begun to address this issue. Many auto manufacturers are now starting to produce more fuel efficient vehicles and companies like Tesla and Nissan are even producing electric vehicles.
Waste Management
Did you know that there is a pile of trash in the Pacific Ocean that is about the size of Texas? Julie Tishkoff knows. She does whatever she can to recycle and compost as much as possible, as well as minimizing the use of materials that can’t be composted or recycled.
Water Usage
As a California native, Julie Tishkoff is familiar with the adverse effects of overusing water, including the historic Californian drought. While Californians like Julie have taken efforts to adhere to strict water usage guidelines, the efforts are not enough to sustain such an area of agricultural significances. Produce like almonds and pomegranates, which are especially popular these days due to a renewed focus on healthy eating, requires massive amounts of water to grow. California is the main producer of these plants as well. While many residents have tried to reduce their water usage, this goes head to head with industries that use a high amount of water, something that could harm California’s recovery efforts from the drought. With new water regulations, hopefully the effects of the drought can be mitigated.
